OekoTube
The OekoTube is an electrostatic micro-dust filter developed by the Swiss company, OekoSolve, in the beautiful Rhine Valley.
The OekoTube can be easily fitted to domestic chimneys. It is suitable for solid fuel heating systems of up to 40 kW, including wood fires, wood stoves, coal fires, pellet fires and central heating.
The OekoTube has a proven 70- 95% emission reduction rate in laboratory tests and field trials.
Installing the OekoTube on your chimney dramatically reduces emissions and instantly improves local air quality.
The OekoTube can be fitted to square, round, or rectangular chimneys; whether brick, stainless steel, concrete, or copper. The OekoTube fits between the roof and the top of the chimney. The flue draft is not affected by having the OekoTube fitted. A power supply of 230V AC is needed to operate the OekoTube.
When the fire is lit, the OekoTube automatically switches on. When the fire goes out, the OekoTube automatically switches to standby mode. The OekoTube uses less than 30W (equivalent to 1 cent per hour) of electricity during operation and 1W on standby.
The OekoTube is easily cleaned by a professional chimney sweep during the annual chimney clean. The collected flakes can be removed with a common chimney broom. The OekoTube can be cleaned from the bottom or the top of the chimney without needing to remove the electrode.
Standards
OekoTube has been granted resource consent by Environment Canterbury.
(Resource Consent CRC 212092).OekoTube falls into the category of ‘Secondary Reduction Emission Devices’ under the Home Heating Section of Environment Canterbury’s classification of burner types
Fitting the OekoTube to an existing NES compliant wood burner transforms the burner to an Ultra-low Emission Burner
The OekoTube is also eligible under the Healthier Homes Canterbury rating scheme for addition to rate demands and repayment in instalments
The OekoTube has Alternative Building Code approval under the New Zealand Building Code
How does the OekoTube work?
The OekoTube filter functions on the electrostatic field principle.
Micro-dust particles from the fire flow through the chimney and on through the OekoTube filter.
The high voltage electrode releases electrons into the chimney space where the micro-dust particles flow.
The electrostatic field forces the electrons to move toward the chimney wall. As this happens the micro-dust particles become polarised and also move toward the chimney wall.
The micro-dust particles clump together on the chimney wall to form flakes of particulate matter. The particulate matter falls back into the fire box to burn.
